Research Interests – General

My researches have roamed over a wide area of boron ring and cluster chemistry, including synthetic, structural, spectroscopic (particularly multinuclear NMR) and theoretical work. My present fellowship was awarded to allow me to explore novel boron-carbon-nitrogen ring and cage chemistry. In addition I have been developing theoretical and experimental aspects of boron cluster chemistry, looking at fundamental and applied aspects. These have included derivative chemistry of carboranes aimed at their incorporation in oligomeric or polymeric electronically unsaturated and/or thermally stable substances for use in electronic device technology, in BNCT (boron neutron capture therapy), in high temperature polymers or in supported catalysts. My main strength lies in determining molecular structures of new boron containing ring and cluster compounds based on multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and ab initio/GIAO/NMR computations.
