RESEARCH SKILLS

Inorganic and Organic Synthetic Chemistry – handling air-sensitive hazardous chemicals in solid, liquid and gas phases. Vast experience in syntheses of organic and inorganic compounds. Experience in gas and solution-state column chromatography.

NMR spectroscopy – hands-on multinuclear NMR (including probe tuning) and NMR interpretation – particularly in boron NMR.

Mass spectroscopy – hands-on EI-MS (low and high resolution) and GC-MS.

Infra Red (IR) spectroscopy – hands-on gas, liquid and solid state IR (and FT-IR)

Computational Chemistry – hands-on ab initio and semi empirical (Optimizations, MOs, NMR) computations – 5 years of UNIX experience. Currently use GAUSSIAN98.

X-ray crystallography – refinements of X-ray structures, geometry fitting, etc with SHELXTL packages.

Literature search – very experienced in literature search using chemical abstracts and electronic databases (such as beilstein commander, scifinder, web of science) as search tools.

Refereeing – Refereeing original papers for chemistry journals and grant proposals (EPSRC Peer Review College Member).

Supervision – Sole supervision of postdoctorates, postgraduates and graduates in conjunction with industrial and electron diffraction projects. Joint supervision of postgraduates and graduates during my postdoctoral periods.
